This project explores the relationship between sound and urban experience by using Melbourne 35 City Circle tram as a moving site of investigation. Sounds recorded at each tram station, including conversations, bell rings, and track noise, capture fleeting urban moments and the city’s acoustic identity. These recordings are interpreted through both digital and hand-drawn sound wave graphics that visually reflect the auditory landscape. Using elements like dots, lines, and planes, the visuals express tonal atmosphere and rhythm. These abstracted sound impressions were then used as a foundation to develop a unique typeface, transforming sonic memory into visual language and urban storytelling.
