Since 2006, I have performed a piano solo titled “多謝媽咪” (“Thank you, mommy”) as a personal tribute to my mother. This project transforms that intimate gesture into a visual form by designing a custom Chinese typeface inspired by the phrase. It reflects gratitude, memory, and creative reinterpretation of traditional language. The typeface reimagines traditional Chinese characters through bold, modern forms. By deconstructing and layering each stroke in accordance with standard stroke order, the design balances structural clarity with expressive emotion. The result moves away from a conventional “Chinese feel,” presenting a fresh, layered visual language rooted in personal meaning.
