As part of PolyU’s “Operation SoInno,” this project reimagines Kowloon Park Fitness Trail to foster intergenerational play and enhance public well-being. The existing trail lacked visual clarity and appeal, limiting its accessibility and enjoyment. Our team developed a refreshed design strategy that enhances usability and inclusiveness. The result is a active and playful environment that supports users of all ages and strengthens community interaction.

Engagement Workshop
In the Intergenerational Play Space background study, the basic premise of intergenerational play is to increase social participation and physical activity among users of varying abilities. The workshop fosters co-creation and participatory design with the target groups, aiming to understand the needs and preferences of people across different ages and backgrounds. Through the role play, post-it mapping and walking interview, these insights were then applied to inform the further design of the fitness trail.
Design Strategy
The design introduces thin-line graphics, a clean yet vibrant palette, and clear iconographic markers that align with the natural flow of the trail and user behavior. These elements not only guide movement but also encourage informal play, rest, and shared experiences. By applying subtle visual cues and color-coded zones, the system supports intuitive navigation and invites users to explore the park at their own pace. It creates a renewed public trail that fosters connection across generations and demonstrates how everyday infrastructure can become a playful, inclusive, and health-promoting space.
A shared pile. A held story. A shifting system. A lived corner.
